Likes (min. 4)
Deacon loves to watch movies. He especially likes movies that are based on true stories or take some root in history. In fact, Deacon loves history. He is not completely sure if this love for history was spurned because of his father being a professor or if it has anything to do with his family ties to ancient Greece. Either way, it is his favorite subject. Deacon also has a deep rooted sense of justice, which he strives to fight for on a daily basis. Deacon's favorite food is pizza. You really could put pretty much anything on a pizza and Deacon would be more than happy to chow down.
Dislikes (min. 4)
Deacon hates sweet foods. This earns him many strange looks but it is something he can't help. Chocolate, cookies, cake, none of it is appealing to him. He also really hates people who take advantage of those who are weak. Pranks don't really make him laugh if they are not tastefully done. He doesn't appreciate humor done for shock value. Shows like Family Guy and Wilfred never made him laugh nor did he understand why other people thought something so stupid was funny.
Strengths (min. 2)
Deacon's ability to tell if people are lying is one of his greatest strengths. He also takes great pride in his intelligence.
Weaknesses (min. 2)
He may put too much stock in his own abilities. He doesn't generally want help from other people. He really prefers to do everything on his own.
Fatal Flaw (fears.min.1)
Deacon's fatal flaw is that he will almost do anything to find justice, even at the risk of himself.
Deacon is not as smart as the usual child of Athena. That's not to say he is not smart, he can make witty commentary as well as the next guy, but he leans more on the side of justice and truth than anything else. His father often joked that it would have made more sense for Deacon to be the son of Themis, the Greek Goddess of Justice, than of Athena. Deacon didn't appreciate the humor as much as his history professor of a father seemed to.
Deacon is one of the kindest, most loyal friends a person would ever have the pleasure of meeting. He is not the most flirtatious of people, but he is a true fan of the playful banter that sometimes will come with flirting with a smart, sarcastic girl. He has always thought that sarcasm is one of the highest forms of humor and appreciates irony more than most.
He is not at all shy. Deacon is always forward with sharing anything he knows or has experienced for the sake of bettering others. This has made him an easy friend to make and keep.
Deacon has the power to tell when anyone is lying. This power, pairing with his inflated sense of justice, came in quite handy. The thing is, Deacon doesn't respond to ever lie he senses. He believes that little white lies build character and can contribute to the betterment of society. It is the truly big lies that he can't let stand. This power has always been an issue with his friends, family, and others in his company. Sometimes, always being able to point out when someone is lying can make people resent and, more often then not, it loses you the trust of others, which is actually quite ironic.
Claimed? Yes
How many years have they been at Camp? Six years
Other family members:
1. David Jacoby: David is Deacon's father and best friend. David is a history professor at a small university in Oklahoma. He focuses on ancient histories and mythologies and loves to talk to his son about his mother. He often makes Greek jokes that frustrate his other two children. It is extremely obvious that he plays favorites.
2. Fae Jacoby: Fae is Deacon's half sister. She is three years older than Deacon and was borne to David's wife, Andrea, before she died of cancer. Fae does not remember her mother and hates Deacon for being so different from her.
3. Iain Jacoby: Iain is Deacon's older half brother. He is five years older than Deacon and was also borne to Andrea before she died. He doesn't have the same feelings of hatred for his younger brother that Fae has. In fact, Iain is fascinated by the idea that his brother is a demigod and often studies Greek history to have something to talk to Deacon about.
100 words minimum of their history leading up to camp:
Deacon has known most of his life that he was different from his siblings. His father always liked him better and Fae, especially, never let him forget that he wasn't their real brother. Despite the fact that his father loved him very much, he still felt like an outsider in his own family. He could tell if his father was having a bad day because the lies he told to keep his kids believing there was still money or something would always stick out to Deacon like a sore thumb. Deacon always wondered if his father noticed how he had been feeling.
When Deacon was twelve, David finally decided that Deacon would do well around people like himself. He sent Deacon away to a summer camp and it was probably the best thing that ever happened to him. Not only did people believe he was smart, despite his struggles reading, he was surrounded by other people who had many of the same problems with their family and with their schooling that Deacon did. To him, this meant the world.
